It’s nice to have come to Japan as a nursing care technician from Sweden in Northern Europe. (Part 10)

I introduce the number of cases where foreigners who have a marketable skill come to Japan in various relationships and live there. Foreigners who have a marketable skill are people who have worked in primary and service industries such as nursing care, horticulture, agriculture, fisheries, forestry, and construction work sites. This time, she came to Japan not as a mere worker of nursing care from Sweden in Northern Europe, but as an engineer or leader, but she had a hard time bumping into the difference sin of the nursing environment and customs in Japan, and the language of Japanese. It can be said that language is an important example of how important communication is.

Circumstances

Growing up in a city near Stockholm on the Gulf of Bosnia in Sweden, she came to Japan after five years of working on nursing care planning and inviting a Japanese nursing service provider. In Sweden, she seems to have learned about three months to read and speak about everyday conversation in Japanese. She came to Japan in broken Japanese based on Swedish and English.

The nursing service provider seemed to get to know her and her officials during their visits to Sweden and Denmark.

As soon as she arrived in Japan, she started working as a care service provider and as a leader in planning care plans, but in a few days she began to experience various obstacles.

(1) Although the daily conversation of the level of a simple greeting is somehow Japanese, she was not able to speak in Japanese when it came to the nursing care planning business, and it is that all were in English. The people involved were not able to understand at all, and little by little they went away. It is sure to be so, and it speaks in English, and all documents are in Japanese.

The circumstances of Sweden in the welfare advanced country and the circumstances of Japan which is the nursing care backward country might be greatly influenced, too.

(2) That’s why the pile of documents in the nursing care plan put pressure on her and the people concerned, and she became stressed and started to get agis.

(3) As a result, her behavior became severe, and she became irritated and depressed, and seemed to become isolated.

In this situation, nursing service providers have been asked by our foreign support office to help them overcome this situation in order to detect the crisis.

The Full Picture of The Nursing Care Service Business in Japan

Japan’s nursing care services business is wide-ranging, and it is important to note that there are areas that have not yet been fully developed or have not been established.

1 Designated housing service business (visit nursing care business, visit bathing business, visit nursing business, visit rehabilitation business, office nursing care business, school rehabilitation business, short-term admission life care business, short-term admission nursing care business, home care management guidance business, Resident life care business for specified facilities, welfare equipment loan business)

What can I do for you? What do you want to do? What kind of work do you do now?

She came to our foreign support room. I immediately asked her the following three questions in English.

Q;What can I do for you?

I don’t know. I can’t speak with a son of a in my head. Why can’t I do so much work in Sweden?

Q;What do you want to do? I don’t know.

I can’t explain it.

Q.;What kind of work do you do now?

I don’t know. I can’t explain it.

This is obviously already serious. I had to inform the nursing care service provider that I needed to take six months of rest and study Japanese if possible for more than three months.

The Japanese level of the nursing care business requires a minimum level of 3 or higher (you can read, write, and speak hiragana kanji at the third grade of elementary school. The number of Kanji characters is about 500 characters.) At this level, it is difficult when it comes to business, and it is desirable to have level 4 or higher if possible (hiragana and Kanji, etc. at the sixth grade of elementary school can read, write, and speak. The number of Kanji characters is approximately 1000 characters.)

Response to our foreign support office

As a result of checking her Japanese level, it was level 1. With this, it is impossible to formulate a care plan or to instruct and guide people. With the goal of level 4, we began to master the level of “Hiragana Classroom”, “Elementary School”, “Introduction to Kanji Classroom”, “Kanji Introduction Class”, “Kanji Acquisition Class”, “Kanji Acquisition Class”, “Kanji Acquisition Class”, “6th graders”, and “Kanji 1000 characters”. “Middle-level Kanji class” (junior high school students, 1000 kanji characters) was also held in parallel. At least the level of “Introduction to Kanji Lessons” was instructed to master. I also persuaded them about the importance of communication with people. At first, We taught slowly and gradually raised the pitch.

Foreigners, preparation of Japanese is important!

It is rare for a manager like her to wait six months.

In most cases, it is a small business, so there is no room. Please study Japanese as much as possible before coming to Japan. Also, please master Japanese by all time after you come to Japan. It is to try to make good use of the holiday.

Advice to her

Explained to her the three important points of communication with people. I.e

☆ Lower the line of sight and make it to the care worker level, and ask for cooperation. Speak slowly. It’s just a good idea to think about it.

☆It is difficult to communicate if you cannot read and write Japanese kanji.

☆ If you do not try, people will not be convinced and will not follow, and you will not understand.

One status when solving problems is to go to the “site” and touch the “real thing” directly (look) and grasp the “reality”.

About nursing care work manual and nursing care work standard book

The nursing care work manual and the nursing care work standard book of the nursing care service business to which she belonged, etc. were made easy to understand by the translation method of Japanese and English over six months because there was a Japanese, too and there were a lot of omissions. In particular, she put a lot of figures and pictures.

What was the result of the Six Month Japanese Language Training?

After six months, I checked her Japanese level and found that 3. was five levels. It was not more than the level we targeted, but we can’t help it. I encouraged them to continue to study Japanese in the future.

All she has to do is crawl up on her own. During her six-month stay in the city, she was able to visit the city and many nearby nursing homes and welfare projects.

I think this was very meaningful to her.

At the end

In this way, she became quite energetic in six months and returned to her former workplace, leaving behind anxiety material. In a later date, she had a chance to go to the nursing care service office by chance a few years later, and on her way home, she was working well. What a relief. This is frustrating though it is not understood that the labor of the foreigner in Japan is not seen in a little long.
