Company get-together ≒ Job：会社の飲み会 ≒ 仕事？ 

You could say company get-together mean job rather than fun time.
Although the get-together is free to attend, it is more often than not mandatory.
Once you turn down the invitation, you would be labeled as unfriendly or hard to work with.

会社（かいしゃ）の飲（の）み会（かい）は、楽（たの）しむ時間（じかん）というよりは、仕事（しごと）に近（ちか）いです。

一応（いちおう）、会社の飲み会）は自由参加（じゆうさんか）になっていますが、（暗黙（あんもく）の了解（りょうかい）で）強制（きょうせい）参加のことが多（おお）いため、断（ことわ）れなかったり、拒（こば）むと「付（つ）き合（あ）いが悪（わる）い」というレッテルを貼（は）られ、仕事がしづらくなるということもあるでしょう。

It might be ok for turning down your colleague’ invitation (not recommended), however invited by your boss would be mandatory.
So, have-no-choice participation is, say, job rather than ordinary get-together.

However, there is a definite difference between “company get-together” and “job” which is you get no salary paid even if it is mandatory.
What is worse, you, sometimes, have to pay.

「断（ことわ）れれないから参加（さんか）する」

このような気持（きも）ちで参加する飲み会は、仕事の延長（えんちょう）と言（い）えるかもしれません。

しかし、「会社（かいしゃ）の飲（の）み会（かい）」と「仕事」には、決定的（けっていてき）な違（ちが）いがあります。

「会社の飲み会」は、給料（きゅうりょう）は出（で）ません。また、参加費（さんかひ）が徴収（ちょうしゅう）されることもあります。

There are, indeed, people who think the get-together deepens relationship.

This is what we call over drinks communication (Nommunication: “Nomu” means drink. Nomu + Communication)

There would be the get-together held to deepen relationship by over drinks, so you can’t always say “company get together ≒ Job”.
(Or may be just surrounded by many drink lovers though…)

ただ、「会社の飲み会」に対して、

酒（さけ）の席（せき）で語（かた）り合（あ）うことで仲良（なかよ）くなれる（親睦（しんぼく）が深（ふか）まる）

といった考（かんが）えを持（も）つ人（ひと）もいます。

これは、飲み会のコミュニケーション（「飲（の）みニケーション」）と呼（よ）ばれています。

そして、「親睦を深めたい」という意図（いと）のもとで、飲（の）み会（かいが開（ひらか）かれていることもあります。

したがって、一概（いちがい）に会社（かいしゃ）の「飲み会≒仕事」とも言（い）い切（き）れないです。
（ただ単（たん）に、職場（しょくば）にお酒が好（す）きな人（ひと）が多（おお）いだけかもしれません・・・。）
